VENTuRE: UM partner industrial visit with Naval Architectural Services Ltd. and Universita` degli Studi di Genova

A partner industry visit was organised on the 25th of February as part of the ongoing H2020 project VENTuRE (Project No.  856887). This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme.

The visit served as an opportunity for academics, researchers, and students from the University of Malta (UM) and from the Università degli Studi di Genova (UNIGE) to better familiarise themselves with on-site marine applications and operations from an industrial perspective point. The visit was coordinated by the VENTuRE industry partner, the Research Development and Innovation (RDI) department at Naval Architectural Services Ltd.

The visit included a round trip on both a high-speed catamaran ferry as well as a RORO ferry, together with a tour of their bridge and engine room that was led by the crew. This gave the opportunity for attendees to put forward questions to the captains and engineers of the vessels.

This aim of this activity was to further strengthen the scientific and technological capacity of the partners on ship design, layout, and operations by allowing knowledge-exchange and open communication between the industry members. The visit provided essential knowledge about bridge and engine room layouts, propulsion configurations, mechanical systems, and day-to-day operations.

Following the visit, attendees attended a networking lunch which provided an opportunity for knowledge sharing.
